EMPLOYEE INTERVIEWS

Mr. H. T.

An engineer for 5 years
Training Officer
  • Mr. T., who is in charge of training, trains new graduates and mid-career inexperienced individuals. Please tell us how you became in charge of training!
After initially joining the company as a new graduate, I was working as a customer engineer but was invited by the current representative director to join the company during an employee assembly.
  • It was not like you were appointed to be in charge of training from the beginning, right? How did you feel when you were spoken to by the representative director?
I was very happy because I was selected to do a job that Style Free did not have before for the improvement of the company's environment! I accepted immediately!
  • As Style Free's training officer, you instruct many inexperienced individuals and new graduates every year. There must have been difficult times, is that right?
That is right. When I am teaching, there are times when I cannot convey things across or I do not have enough time to convey everything, and every time I realize that it is difficult to teach everything from scratch.
Each person has a different way of teaching that they find easy to understand or that depends on what they experienced or learned. There are many times that what you teach does not mesh well with the person, and it is difficult to gain understanding.
  • Even with all those difficult times, it is really gratifying to see the young people you taught go on to work as engineers, right?
Of course! I am always happy when the young people I have taught are able to grow on their own and become successful.
  • I often get questions from inexperienced people or liberal arts students, "What kind of studying should I do?".
As someone in charge of training, please share with us some advice on what they should do when aiming to become an engineer!
I hope you create a lot of plans and execute them! I think there have been times when I failed and times when I have succeeded. Please analyze it in detail and reflect on it. I think this will be useful not only for engineers. If possible, it will be a good idea to challenge yourself by creating something through programming at the same time.
  • If you are an aspiring engineer reading this, please use this as a reference! Do you also have other duties besides training?
Yes. Other than that, I also produce in-house tools.
  • Is there anything that you are careful about or conscious of when performing such work as an engineer?
I guess it is important not to just blindly follow instructions.
It will not always be perfect because it is someone else's instructions. If you take an easy route in the moment, it will catch up to you eventually.
As much as possible, I try to understand the issues and surroundings and take proactive steps. I want to have fun, (laughs) but I think it is still far from perfect...
  • Being proactive is a symbol of a capable person! (laughs) Lastly, please give a message to job-hunting students!
I hope you do not stick to one path.
There is also the option of not working for a company.
As there are a variety of occupations, companies, and jobs, I want you to choose among them after reflecting by yourself.
However, I think there will be challenges no matter which path you take. When making a choice, be clear about your reasons and what you need to do.
  • This interview was possible because I have both perspectives: from an educator's and a senior engineer's points of view! Thank you very much.
