EMPLOYEE INTERVIEWS

Mr. S. K.

An engineer for 10 years
In-house SE Front Desk Engineer
  • Mr. S. K., it has been seven (7) years since you joined Style Free as a mid career, how many years have you been working as an engineer now?
I have been an engineer for ten (10) years.
  • You have spent more than half of your career at Style Free! Please share with us how and why did you decide to become an engineer?
For a long time, I vaguely wanted to be involved in manufacturing things but was assigned to a department that was not related to development. I taught myself app development, and transferred to the IT department where I can do development - and that is how I became an engineer.

In the end, I am glad to become an engineer.
  • I could feel your enthusiasm for development! After joining Style Free, what kind of services are you currently involved in?
Currently, I am developing web services and applications. I am involved in various services such as our internal media solutions and other companies' systems, but projects (hereinafter referred to as PJs) are often done by a small number of people, so each person has a large role to play.
I am involved in a wide variety of tasks, from database design to HTML coding and app design and implementation.
  • Given your great sense of responsibility in your role and work, I am sure that there are moments when you feel a sense of accomplishment. When do you feel fulfilled in your work?
It is during moments when you think, "I got it!" after a lot of research and trial and error in response to difficult customer requests or specifications that are uncertain or hard to achieve.

To be honest, I wish they are easy requests, but when it actually happens, I feel like it is not enough. (laughs)
  • I also enjoyed moments when I thought, "I got it!" during my technical training. (laughs) On the other hand, have you ever had any difficulties?
Yes, I have. There was a time when I was working on two (2) or three (3) projects, and I was assigned to a new project and had to handle everything from planning to design and implementation within a short period of time.

For the first time, I thought, "Maybe it is impossible.".
  • It is certainly difficult, right? Nowadays, you have more opportunities to work with junior employees, including new graduates. Is there anything that you keep in mind or focus on when working with them?
It is about trying not to look bossy. I want to have a flat relationship, regardless of hierarchy.
Personally, I do not think there are bosses or subordinates - just different roles.
  • As a junior employee, I feel the desire to follow the footsteps of that kind of senior!
At Style Free, many employees talk from the same perspective, regardless of seniority!
That is right. Especially in the development team, there are a lot of science-minded people who tend to look unemotional, but in reality, are kind people. (laughs)
  • Lastly, please give a message to job-hunting students who are reading this interview!
Anyone who has an inquisitive mind can become an engineer, so even if you have no experience, please aim to be an engineer! Having a skill is a real strength!
  • I was able to hear all the stories that I could only hear from a senior employee who has a long experience as an engineer!
Thank you for your encouraging message!
